About Julie’s:
Julie’s Family Learning Program (Julie’s) is a welcoming, inclusive space providing free educational and supportive services to develop strong, successful families and adults. Julie’s operates three core programs:
- Family Development offers classes and support towards high school equivalency and life management to underserved mothers through an intensive, in person curriculum of academic and life skills.
- Adult Basic Education (ABE) serves anyone age 16+ who is interested in academic classes in preparation for a high school credential. This is a flexible, part-time program with a hybrid option.
- Children’s Services offers licensed early childhood education (for infants to age 6) for the children of our adult learners.
All adult learners have access to digital literacy classes, individual tutoring, career/next step services, and many supportive services. Julie’s staff and students collaborate to develop individualized plans to overcome barriers to achieving their hopes and dreams.
About the Program:
While parents are striving to reach their goals at Julie’s, their children (3 months to 5 years of age) are reaching their own age-appropriate milestones in our on-site, state-licensed, early education program (“Children’s Services”) which serves up to 36 children in 3 classrooms: Infant, Toddler, and Preschool. Julie’s early childhood educators maximize learning, curiosity, and growth for our children and families through play-based curriculum tailored to the interests, abilities, and needs of each child.
Julie’s has contracted with Boston Public Schools (BPS) to make its Preschool classroom a BPS Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) classroom beginning with the 2024/2025 school year. We will provide, on-site at Julies, full-day Universal Pre-Kindergarten to the children of Julie’s adult learners and other children from the Boston community. From the BPS UPK Implementation Guide: The goal of Boston Universal Pre-K is to ensure every four and three-year-old in Boston has access to high-quality early education experiences that lay the foundation for their future learning and educational success. The City of Boston is committed to providing high-quality, inclusive, and culturally responsive early education to all children whether their families choose to send them to classrooms in Boston Public Schools (BPS) or Community-Based Organizations.
