... to support the mothers and
children at Julie's

“I first moved to America from Trinidad when I was seven years old. I had a rough experience in middle school. I ended up dropping out of high school in ninth grade and I got pregnant at sixteen. I have been through shelters, in and out, the whole works. Then I came across Julie’s and I was amazed with how many things they provide here: counseling, GED, computer classes, everything. I finally got accepted at Julie’s on my birthday, and that was the best present I could ever have.
You can’t fail here in Julie’s, because there is so much support. I have already passed four out of five GEDs…. I feel I’ll be able to reach my goals and dreams. It’s a big load off my back to know that my daughter is here, safe, and I can visit her whenever. The women here are all different ages, all different races, different personalities. But we all share one goal and that is to succeed in life, with our kids, for a better future. There is no other place like Julie’s".

“I’m an alumna of Julie’s, and my son and daughter went through the children’s program here. I first came to Julie’s seventeen years ago. Through the years, Julie’s has helped me tremendously. It taught me important skills like budgeting, time management, and I was able to finish my school education. While I was upstairs learning with the other moms, my two children were in the Montessori pre-school program.

Both of my children are doing very well. I just found out that both have made the honor roll in their schools. My eldest is even doing an engineering program at MIT on Saturdays. He has his mind set on college. Because of Julie’s, I was later accepted to study at Bunker Hill Community College. It’s been a struggle, but Julie’s has always been here for me. Before, I had to live on welfare, and rely on everyone else. Now I have a full-time job. Julie’s taught me to become self-sufficient. I thank Julie’s for everything they have done. Without their help, I wouldn’t have made it.”
